Environmental Education

Students are encouraged to be involved in Environmental education groups such as Enviro Club and Emmanuel Environmental Leadership Squad (EELS), all of which encourage the closing of the waste cycle and the elimination of litter around the College. The College has strong relationships with Waste Wise Schools, Keep Australia Beautiful, Cockburn City Council and other local community groups that enhance this area.

Enviro Club meets every second Tuesday after school to:

  • Grow fruit, vegetables and herbs
  • Maintain the three worm farms and compost bin
  • Look after paper and can recycling
  • Learn about waste in the wider community and Running activities such as waste free lunches and competitions.

Students from local Catholic Primary Schools are invited to join us as well. This club is open to students from Emmanuel and local Catholic Primary schools from Years 2 to 12.

The EELS are a leadership group led by the Environment Captain (Year 12), Vice-Captain (Year 11) and Year level representatives from Years 9 and 10.  Other students from Years 7-12 go through a selection process to be a part of the squad.

Students sign on for a yearlong position which allows them to attend external workshops and events, organise campaigns and learn skills such as applying for grants, managing a budget and public speaking. They work with industry experts to organise waste and litter reduction programs and to promote sustainable practices throughout the College community.
