AUSTSWIM National Best New Swim Teacher Award

Year 12 student Grace has been honoured with the prestigious AUSTSWIM National Best New Swim Teacher Award for 2023!

This significant award acknowledges Grace as the most outstanding new swim teacher among the 2023 cohort of 6,000 new AUSTSWIM accredited candidates in Australia and recognises not only her high-quality skills in educating her students in swimming and water safety, but also the passion she has for her work. In a recent interview with AUSTSWIM Ambassador and Olympian Brooke Hanson, Grace also talked about how the training gave her growth in her interpersonal skills and confidence in dealing with significant responsibilities. She highlighted what a great opportunity it was for young people and students to gain a new skill, open flexible and in demand job opportunities to earn money whilst studying and gaining strong professional skills.

In presenting this award on World Drowning Prevention Day (25 July 2023) David Emes, National Business Manager for AUSTWIM also highlighted the significance of the work that AUSTWIM Swim Teachers do and the difference they can make. It is tragic to know that over 300 people lost their lives to drowning in July 2021- June 2022 whilst there were double that number in non-fatal incidents and it is the belief of AUSTSWIM that these statistics can be positively influenced by the quality of the Teachers AUSTWIM train and the quality of the lessons they deliver.

AUSTSWIM has been Australia’s national organisation for the teaching of Swimming and Water Safety since 1979 and in that time, trained more than 395,000 Teachers of Swimming and Water Safety and continue to train around 6,000 new Swim Teachers annually. The AUSTSWIM Licence is the industry standard for Swimming and Water Safety teachers and is delivered and recognised in every state and territory of Australia, as well as in many countries overseas. As the most widely recognised and regarded accreditation in the industry, the AUSTSWIM Teacher licence is the industry leader.

AUSTSWIM would love to work with more students from Emmanuel Catholic College to provide them with an opportunity to earn an outstanding qualification that is WACE accredited and make a difference.
